When I was a kid, I loved Crossbows and Catapults. Unfortunately, by the time I had enough money to buy it, Lakeside Games weren't selling it anymore, and this was one of the great tragedies of my young life. BrikWars was in some ways an attempt to remedy this through the power of Lego, but it was never really quite the same.
Decades later, the license was revived by Moose Enterprise and Spin Master Toys, and they called me up to do the boxcover images. The catch: like all toy jobs, the package art was due right as the toy designs were getting finalized, so as usual there wasn't the time or the budget to get fancy. With two weeks to go from concept sketch to six finished paintings, we made a plan to paint all the props once and then shamelessly recycle them into as many different environments as we could.
Fortunately, Photoshop gives lots of cheap ways to cheat when you don't have time to do the work for real. See how many times you can see the same objects used over and over in the other boxcovers in the series.
