| "LEGO Mars Mission Universe" Matte Painting - 2006 |

Towards the end of 2006 LEGO called me up to put together a set of matte paintings for their upcoming Mars Mission line for 2007. As a darker reboot of the Life on Mars theme of 2001, they were looking for a more menacing and mysterious treatment of the Martian landscape, broken up into convenient Photoshop image elements for company reuse as the line evolved with the Alien Hive storyline in 2008.
The background above is for the giant promo posters where they cram all the playtheme sets into a single image. The rest of the images on this page are background paintings for the initial round of playset packages in the 2007 line. The LEGO models and graphics included in some cases are preliminary placeholders, but are close to the final versions that hit retail shelves. |
